Valaisanne culture
"Valaisan culture is one of mutual respect, hard work, honesty, trust, care for others and above all friendship".
But what do I know? After all, I'm not Valaisan, I'm British. We fell so in love with the Valaisan environment and culture that we decided to move here permanently. Well, for as long as you'll let us 😀.
But maybe we have an idea, because it is often easier to see these things as an "outsider". When I talk about it with my friends in the Valais, they are often surprised. They tell me: "It's not like that anymore, even if I wish that it were". Yet, in relation to the world outside the Valais, yes, it is like that. Maybe it's not as strong as before, but it's still very present and very important.
And that's why I decided to get involved in La Récup'. It's obviously good for the environment if you waste less, and giving to others in your own community, whether it's your village or town, your commune or canton, whether it's to friends or people you haven't met yet, demonstrates friendship and thoughtfulness. It builds relationships and makes you feel good about yourself.
One day I hope to be able to say "I am Valaisan". In the meantime, I am your guest and I would like to thank you for your hospitality and for allowing my family and I to share the experience of living in such a wonderful place.
